President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived safely in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the lesser hajj (Umrah). Received at the King Abdulaziz International Airport by top diplomatic and royal protocol officials, this marks his second Umrah trip since taking office in May 2023.
President Bola Tinubu touched down in Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening, landing at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for a spiritual retreat.
Upon his arrival, the Nigerian leader was officially welcomed by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, alongside the Saudi Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
According to state reports, the President is in the kingdom to perform Umrah, the Islamic lesser hajj. He is expected to spend a few days engaged in prayers and reflection before returning to Nigeria next week.
This journey marks President Tinubu's second official trip to Makkah for Umrah since his inauguration on May 29, 2023. His previous lesser hajj took place in November 2023, following his participation in the Saudi-African Summit in Riyadh, where he notably sought divine guidance for steering the nation's affairs.
The trip adds to a growing list of foreign travels undertaken by the administration. Since assuming office, President Tinubu has maintained an active diplomatic and international travel schedule, visiting over 30 countries across more than 50 unique and recurring trips.
Critics and supporters alike continue to monitor these global engagements, weighing their diplomatic and economic dividends against the administration's domestic priorities as the President takes time out for spiritual devotion in the holy city.
