The Nigerian entertainment industry is preparing to bid a final, tearful farewell to one of its brightest and most beloved screen icons.
For decades, the unforgettable face, compelling presence, and stellar delivery of Francis Duru—cemented forever in our hearts by his iconic role as Ahanna in the 1995 classic Rattlesnake—graced Nigerian television screens with pure class and unmatched talent. Since his passing, colleagues, fans, and cultural institutions have continued to mourn a true gentleman of the arts.
According to an official funeral statement jointly signed by his first son, Ebuka Duru, and his sister, Anthonia Chenyi, the final rites will span across both Abuja and his home state in a fitting celebration of life:
The Abuja Service of Songs: Kicking off the solemn transition, a dedicated service of songs will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Family Worship Centre along Idris Gidado Street, Wuye, Abuja, allowing friends, fans, and colleagues in the capital to pay their respects.
Homecoming and Vigil: The funeral train will then move to the East, where a second service of songs is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, 2026, at the late Pa Theophilus Ogide Duru’s family compound in Okai, Eziama, Isiala Mbano, Imo State.
The Final Interment: The final burial and interment will take place the following day on Friday, December 11, 2026, at the same family compound in Imo State, where the legendary actor will be laid to rest.
