What led to the arrest of former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, and why was he released just an hour after questioning? Okorocha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday night, October 12, 2026, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

However, the former governor was released on bail after about one hour of interrogation, with police directing him to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continue. The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release on bail to Channels Television.

The arrest reportedly followed Okorocha’s failure to honour earlier police invitations relating to the ongoing investigation.

He was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled date.

Police investigations into the allegations are ongoing, and Okorocha was expected to return for further interrogation on Tuesday.
